Reflective surfaces: QualiSENSOR Compact and Monitor

On specular surfaces such as part of an automobile body, a silicon wafer or even a sapphire watch glass, the QualiSENSOR is best able to highlight, detect and evaluate defects and surface characteristics.

The QualiSENSOR system operating in reflection is available in two versions: the Compact and the Monitor.

01 Surface characterization

Our full-field measurement system is capable of evaluating minute deviations from a surface (compared to a perfect surface). The high resolution of our sensors associated with our signal processing technologies allows us to be sensitive to micrometric variations (see below), including on large surfaces.

QualiSENSOR responds to a large number of industrial applications, such as:

Painting and surface treatments

One of the typical applications is the qualification of the orange peel phenomenon. The latter is characterized among other things by a specific wavelength as shown below.

Plastic & composite materials

Our systems are used to characterize materials: sink marks, welding lines, surface homogeneity, fiber distribution, etc.

The classification of two class A surfaces (300 x 300 mm test plaque) in the R&D stage is done in a few seconds with the waviness measurement on the QualiSENSOR Monitor.

We defined the quality criteria with the composites manufacturers by correlating the V-Optics waviness index with the customer’s visual perception.

Paper, cardboard and packaging

Our solutions allow the control and qualification of this type of material.

Although the paper is not a reflective material, we have set up a QualiSENSOR Compact at one of our customers in order to adjust the production tools optimally and quickly.

Here the QualiSENSOR Compact tells us that the sample is compliant because the IQ is less than 7. 7 being the acceptability threshold defined by the customer.

02 Detection of surface defects

Any defect modifying the surface can be detected by the QualiSENSOR; whether this results in a deviation of shape or a difference in brightness, reflectivity.

A plastic injection manufacturer wants to automate his control in the production line with the QualiSENSOR Monitor to scan parts coming out of the press.

The example below shows a class A part rejected by QualiSENSOR following the detection of a scratch too large to be acceptable.

03 The flatness measurement

QualiSENSOR is also capable of measuring the flatness of reflective surfaces (mirror, glass, metal, ceramic, etc.).
The example below illustrates the measurement of the flatness of a silicium 100mm diameter wafer in seconds with nanometric precision.

The features:

01 Defect detection

Any aesthetic and / or functional defect of the transparent material will be detected and evaluated by the QualiSENSOR Glazing in a few seconds.

Some application examples:

In this case of application, QualiSENSOR Glazing detects and measures scratches on the neck of the preform. Thus the parts checked after injection reveal tool or process faults.

02 Characteristic measurement

Characteristics such as optical distortion are important parameters in a good number of industrial processes: windshields, aeronautical glazing, etc.

QualiSENSOR Glazing is particularly suitable for this characterization by its technology.
